Opus 2 partners with The Law Society of Singapore

Opus 2 recently joined forces with The Law Society of Singapore (LSS), entering into a two-year partnership with the shared goal of increasing awareness and education around the use of technology in the legal sector through a program of joint activities and initiatives.

The collaboration kicked off last month with the Litigation Conference Workshop 2021, the LSS' flagship event. For the first time ever, the event was held in a hybrid format and hosted more than 1,000 virtual attendees and 180 in-person participants. During the conference key speakers led plenary sessions covering an array of subjects from 'Proposed changes to the legal landscape' through to 'Modern (Online) Litigation Practice'. Followed in the afternoon by workshops consisting of smaller in-person groups headed up by senior trainers and practitioners.

As exclusive technology sponsors of the conference, Opus 2 had the opportunity to lead a number of practical workshop sessions. Collaborating with senior practitioners such as Lim Lei Theng—partner at Allen & Gledhill and a pioneer in the practice of mediation in Singapore— attendees were taken on a journey from case preparation through to advocacy, receiving first-hand experience in the application of technology in both online and in-person litigation practice.

As technology adoption accelerates, Opus 2 and The LSS plan to collaborate on a variety of activities to promote technology and best practices in the APAC region, and to help practitioners quickly and successfully adapt to technology-led approaches to conducting hearings, preparing for trial and collaborating effectively with colleagues and clients.

The new partnership comes at a pivotal moment for the legal industry, both globally and regionally. While the COVID-19 pandemic initially posed significant barriers to disputes practice globally, purpose-built legal technology has played an essential role in maintaining access to justice by helping the profession adapt quickly to remote work.
